The Knoxville Community Darkroom, KCD, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts center whose mission is to educate our local community about film photography and traditional film processes as a means of artistic self-expression.
KCD carries out its mission in multiple ways. We work with students through on-site and satellite workshops to offer arts education programs focused on introduction to film photography. KCD volunteers with community organizations to teach photography basics, with the goal of students achieving success by creating their own work to exhibit in our gallery.
The goal of each educational workshop, whether for students or the community at large, is for participants to feel empowered to go forward and create their own body of work. Most events or partnerships end with a show at our Gallery, with a reception and press release.
Second, KCD is a community arts hub. We offer classes, meet-ups, critique nights, workshops, and more in our space. We also provide gallery space in the KCD Gallery for our members and other artists in the community to display their work.
Lastly, KCD accepts community members, whose membership fees allow us to pursue our non-profit work with students. These members have access to KCD facility to develop film, make prints, and more.
